Frequently Asked Questions

What will it cost to move my piano?

Cost of moving a piano is dependent on several factors such as the type and size of the piano, and the layout of both the pickup and delivery locations.   Due to their size and complexity, grand pianos will typically cost more to move than small and medium sized uprights such as spinet, console, and studio pianos.   Contact us today and we can give you an accurate piano moving estimate based on the type of piano, location layouts, and distance to be moved.  If you are in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area and are searching for professional piano movers, look no further.  Contact us today to schedule your piano move.

Why do I need to hire a professional piano mover rather than a regular household mover?

Piano moving is a specialized skill which is always best left to professional piano movers.   A small vertical (upright) piano weighs 300-400 lbs. and larger uprights can approach 1,000 lbs.   A small grand piano weighs 500 lbs and larger grands can exceed 1,000 lbs.  Pianos are not only heavy, but they are fragile and valuable.  Common household movers rarely have the experience and expertise needed to safely handle a piano.  Many will have little more experience than a do-it-yourselfer AND moving a piano is not a job for the do-it-yourselfer!  Over the years we have received many calls from frustrated piano owners who have hired movers to only discover they don't know what they're doing or in some cases have damaged the piano.  All of these issues would have been avoided had the piano owner simply called professional piano movers to begin with. Your piano is a major investment and moving it should always be left to piano moving professionals.

How is a grand piano moved?

Grand piano moving is a specialized skill which is always best left to professional piano movers.   The grand piano must be placed on its side upon a specialized piece of equipment called a "grand-board".   The legs and pedal lyre of the piano are removed so the piano can be easily maneuvered through standard doorways.  The piano is blanket wrapped and securely strapped to the board which is then placed on a heavy duty piano moving dolly.  Your grand piano is a major investment and moving it should always be left to piano moving professionals.

Do you offer piano storage if I need to have my piano stored?

Yes we can store your piano either short-term or long-term.   If you are having work performed on your home or waiting on a house sale to close and need your piano stored for just a few days, we can accommodate your needs.   We also offer long-term piano storage.  All pianos are stored in our temperature and humidity controlled warehouse.  Each piano is blanket wrapped and covered to keep it dust free.    Contact us today for more information on piano storage.

How is my piano transported?

When you hire a piano mover, it is important to know how your piano will be transported.   Some piano movers will use a pickup truck and ramp to load and move your piano while others might use a pickup truck and trailer with a ramp.   At Piano Pros DFW we feel the safest and most secure way to transport your piano is with an enclosed box truck equipped with a heavy-duty power lift-gate.   Our trucks will not be subject to the swaying and other risks associated with using a cargo trailer.   Piano Pros DFW trucks also allow for easier maneuverability in and out of tight spaces.   The use of ramps tend to increase the possibility of your piano being damaged while our heavy-duty power lift-gates provide for safer loading and unloading of your piano.   As professional piano movers, we understand the need to invest in the proper piano moving equipment to move your valuable piano.
